Eagles Women's Volleyball Preview

The Edgewood College women's volleyball squad returns to the courts to defend their NACC crown. They finished last season as NACC Tournament Champions and regular season co-champion, finishing the year with a 23-11, 12-1 NACC record and reaching the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2011.

Some teams might relax a bit after winning a conference championship. Not this group,” said head coach Paul Schlomer. “They have come back in the gym even hungrier to improve and chase big things because they believe that we can achieve them. The competitiveness in the Edgedome is already very high and will prepare us well for the season ahead. I can’t wait!”

2024 Women's Volleyball Schedule

The Eagles schedule is a gauntlet this year as they look to defend their title and take on bigger challenges out of state. They open the season on August 30 with a tri-match against Augsburg and UW-Whitewater, the latter ranked 10 in the final AVCA national poll of 2023. UW-Platteville, receiving votes in the last AVCA poll, visits the Edgedome for Edgewood College's home opener on Tuesday, September 3. They will head out to California for four games against unfamiliar foes on Friday, September 6 and Saturday, September 7 including a battle against La Verne, who finished 15th in the final AVCA poll last season.

After opening their NACC title defense at Alverno on Thursday, September 19 they will take on a pair of foes ranked last season in no. 18 Calvin on Saturday, September 21 and no. 5 UW-Oshkosh on Tuesday, October 1. The Eagles will play a crucial pair of conference matches back-to-back on the road, taking on Concordia Wisconsin in a rematch of the NACC Tournament Semifinal on Saturday, October 12 before traveling to Aurora to battle their 2023 NACC Tournament Final foe on Thursday, October 17. UW-Stevens Point, ranked 23rd in the last AVCA poll of 2023, will visit the Edgedome on Tuesday, October 22.

The schedule we have this year is arguably the toughest that we have put together in my 19 years at Edgewood College. The NACC is getting tougher every year. We have a challenging trip scheduled in Southern California, and play some of the toughest teams in the upper Midwest. We will definitely be tested, but I think we are ready to show what we can do," said Schlomer.

The team this year has a great mix of veteran experience with super athletic freshmen and sophomores. They are really good volleyball players. What makes them stand out is their dedication to each other and the daily process of improvement. I am blessed to spend time with them every day.

We are incredibly excited about the team this year. This is one of the most talented teams we have ever had here during my time at Edgewood College, and we are ready to go and chase big goals: repeating as NACC Champions and staking our place as one of the top Division III teams in the Midwest.”
