Eagles Women's Volleyball Season Preview

The Edgewood College women's volleyball squad returns to the courts after an impressive 2022 that saw them reach the semifinals of the NACC Tournament, falling to eventual tournament champion Aurora. The Eagles return the core of their offense while introducing an influx of youth as they look to build off of the success of last year.

“We are very excited to get our season started," said head coach Paul Schlomer. "I truly feel we have the ability to put together a special season, contend for the NACC Championship, and chase even bigger things. It feels great to enter a season where the potential is through the roof.”

2023 Women's Volleyball Schedule

The Eagles schedule features 30 matches, seven of which are against teams featured in the AVCA Preaseason poll. They start their season with a gauntlet, facing down no. 12 UW-Whitewater on Saturday, September 2 followed by receiving votes Augsburg and no. 17 Gustavus Adolphus on Friday, September 8 and Saturday, September 9 respectively.

Edgewood College will open their home and NACC slate against Alverno on Thursday, September 14. They will host all three of the other NACC semifinals participants at the Edgedome this season, starting with St. Norbert on September 19, followed by Concordia Wisconsin on October 7 and Aurora on October 12. They'll wrap up their regular season at the Edgedome with a tri-match against strong foes in no. 15 UW-Oshkosh and Wheaton on November 4.

“This is one of the toughest schedules we have put together in quite some time," said Schlomer. "Our intent is to be one of the best volleyball programs in the midwest and nation. To achieve that, we need to out and challenge ourselves with other very strong programs. Our goals are very high, and we plan to go out and do big things this year.”

Our team has the deepest talent of any team I have coached here at Edgewood College. Our returners are fantastic and continue to raise the level of their games. We brought in three transfers who are adding to our competitive gym. On top of that, our group of seven first year students bring so much athleticism and energy. It is a special group of women to work with.

Paul Schlomer is set for his 18th season leading the Women's Volleyball program. Schlomer owns 276 career wins and is the winningest coach in program history. During his tenure, the Eagles have captured three NACC regular season titles and one tournament championship. Schlomer and his staff earned Coaching Staff of the Year honors from the NACC in 2022.
