Edgewood College falls to Benedictine in NACC Tournament

MONTGOMERY, Ill. – The Edgewood College softball team appeared in the NACC Tournament for the first time under head coach Allie Taylor and since 2015. The No. 8 seed Edgewood College faced off against the No. 5 seed Benedictine University in the Battle of the Eagles. Benedictine came away with the 1-0 victory to advance in the tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a tight battle between the two Eagle squads. Benedictine (25-16) scored the only run of the game in bottom of the first inning. Morgan Bruno reached for Benedictine via a walk. Bruno then stole second and advanced to third via a sacrifice bunt from Taylor Oppenhuis. With two outs, Bruno stole home on a first and third situation, crossing the plate before the final out was made by Edgewood College (20-21) on the basepaths.

- The second inning was three up three down for both teams. Edgewood College stranded two runners on base in the top of the third, unable to score Carlie Odejewski and Elizabeth Malarski.

- Malarski gave Edgewood College their best chance to tie the game in the top of the sixth inning. With just one out, the graduate student line a triple to left center. The Edgewood College bats struggled to plate Malarski, with the following batters recording two quick outs to end the threat.

- Bella Lodico went the distance in the circle for Benedictine. She struck out five batters and scattered just three hits. Grace Pustina struck out two batters in her complete game effort for Edgewood College.

- Malarski, Hebert, and Odejewski each recorded a hit for Edgewood College. The game featured just five total hits between both teams.
