VERONA – The Edgewood College Eagles baseball squad hosted a Senior Day doubleheader Friday at Stampfl Field. They took on the St. Norbert Green Knights to conclude their Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) slate. The Eagles (20-19, 14-10 NACC) took a chaotic game one victory 17-16 in eight innings, before claiming the sweep in 12-5 fashion in game two against the Green Knights (15-25, 8-16) in game two.
GAME ONE: EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 17, ST. NORBERT 16 (EIGHT INNINGS)
- A wild pitch in the first that tallied a run for the Eagles was the only run scored in the first three innings by either team.
- A two-RBI double down the right field line, a single to left field, and a sacrifice fly to right field plated four for the Green Knights in the fourth. A wild pitch in the bottom of the frame would leave it 4-2 St. Norbert after four.
- Both teams would score a run in the fifth. The Green Knights homered to center field before
Brooks Kalscheur singled up the middle for an RBI in the fifth.
-After another St. Norbert home run in the top of the sixth, Edgewood College rallied with a six-run sixth. Leonard Pureza kicked things off with a single to center field to score a run, while a center field single from
Terry Tolliver Jr. plated two runs. A throwing error tallied another before a
Kyle Prindle single to left field put the Eagles ahead 9-6.
- The Green Knights replied with a six-run seventh. A single to short followed by a bases-loaded walk put them within a run, while a sacrifice fly to right field and a single to left put them ahead 10-9. A two-run single to left field left St. Norbert up 12-9.
- Edgewood College stayed alive in the seventh. A single from Kalscheur tallied one before a Prindle single down the right field line left them within one. A bases-loaded hit by pitch would send things to the eighth inning.
- A single to left field and an error plated three runs for the Green Knights and a single to short left things at 16-12 heading into the bottom of the eighth.
- Errant pitching and solid hitting fueled the Eagles rally to seal the marathon game.
Jacob Carney singled up the middle and Tolliver through the right side for an RBI each. A bases loaded walk and hit by pitch evened things at 16 apiece before a wild pitch walked off game one for Edgewood College.
- Prindle hit three-for-five with three RBIs. Tolliver recorded five runs and three RBIs.
- Kalscheur and Carney also recorded multi-hit games.
GAME TWO: EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 12, ST. NORBERT 5
- The Eagles struck first in game two. A passed ball started the scoring before Carney doubled to right field for a 2-0 lead after one.
- A triple coupled with a throwing error plated two for the Green Knights in the third.
Brevin Brisack singled up the middle to erase the gain with a pair of RBIs for a 4-2 edge.
- The fourth inning played out similarly to the third. After a home run to left field and a single to left tied the game for St. Norbert, a
Kyle Sagan single to center field plated a pair for a 6-4 lead.
- A wild pitch plated a run for the Green Knights in the fifth, but Edgewood College broke the game wide open in the bottom of the inning. A
Dylan Carrington sacrifice fly to center field started the six-run rally, before
Colby Davis added another with a single up the middle. Sagan continued to roll with a single to left field tacking on another run. Carney hit a two-run RBI single to right field before another wild pitch wrapped up the scoring.
