Eagles swept by Spartans in Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Ill. – The Edgewood College softball team fell to Aurora University in a NACC doubleheader on Sunday. The Spartans earned a 16-1 five inning victory in game one, followed by a 7-3 win in game two.

AURORA 16, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 1 – 5 INNINGS (GAME ONE)
- Aurora University (27-8, 16-6 NACC) got off to a hot start in game one, scoring six runs in the first frame. The Spartans continued to pour on the runs, scoring twice in the second inning and four times in both the third and fourth frames.

- Edgewood College (17-19, 8-12 NACC) scored their only run of the game in the second inning. Alyse Maurer opened the inning with a double to left field, she advanced to third via a single from Jenna Sanchez in the following at bat. Maurer came across to score from third base on a fielder's choice off the bat of Camden Shepherd.

- The Spartans recorded 20 hits in game one of the doubleheader. Kionna King recorded three hits for the Spartans, scoring three runs and plating two Spartans. Shelby Linn and Casey Brennan each knocked triples on the afternoon.

- Rylee Campbell went the distance for Aurora in the circle. She scattered five hits and struck out one batter.

- Tatum Duff, Nikki Fahey, and Natalie Fields each saw time in the circle for the Eagles. Duff and Fields each recording a strikeout.

AURORA 7, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 3 (GAME TWO)
- The Eagles held tough in the nightcap, holding the high-powered Spartans offense to just seven runs. Edgewood College scored three times in game two, all three coming in the fourth inning.

- Edgewood College opened the fourth frame with back-to-back singles from Grace Ott and Gracie Halfman. Jenna Sanchez was the star of the show, blasting a three-run home run to tie the game at three runs apiece.

- The Eagles defense held Aurora to no runs in the fourth or fifth frame. Aurora took the lead in the sixth inning, scoring four runs.

- Natalie Fields continued to be consistent at the top of the lineup for the Eagles. She recorded three hits on the afternoon. Gracie Halfman went 3-for-3 with a run in the nightcap.

- Grace Pustina recorded the complete game in the circle for the Eagles. She recorded four earned runs and struck out two batters. Her counterpart, Madelyn Buske scattered eight hits and struck out three batters.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will head to St. Norbert on Friday for the final road doubleheader of the regular season. Action is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. in De Pere, Wisconsin.
