Eagles fall to No. 25 Stars

VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College softball team faced its toughest test of the season Thursday, hosting a NACC doubleheader against No. 25 Dominican University. The nationally ranked Stars were too much for the Eagles, winning both contests by scores of 14-4 and 8-3.  

DOMINICAN 14, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 4 – 5 INNINGS – GAME ONE
- Edgewood College (17-17, 7-10 NACC) led 4-1 after the first inning, as NACC Position Player of the Week Gracie Halfman highlighted the first inning for the Eagles, sending a three-run home run over the left center field fence off of NACC Pitcher of the Week Kayla Faber-Cournane.

- The Dominican (33-3, 18-2 NACC) bats were consistent in game one, scoring four runs in the second to take a 5-4 lead over the Eagles. The Stars added on four runs in the third and fourth innings, before plating their 14th and final run in the fifth frame.

- Faber-Cournane earned the win in the circle for the Stars, going four innings and scattering four hits. Tatum Duff went the distance for the Eagles, walking just one batter.

-  Donatela Sommesi posted three hits and drove in two runs for the Stars.

- Grace Ott and Halfman each recorded two hits in game one. Ott adding a double.

DOMINICAN 8, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 3 – GAME TWO
- The high-powered Stars offense continued in game two, recording 15 hits, including three extra-base hits.

- Dominican scored runs in the first, third, fifth and sixth innings in the nightcap. They led 8-0 before the Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth frame.

- An Olivia Hebert double to left center plated the Eagles first run of the game. Ott plated Elizabeth Malarski for run number to, while a Halfman sacrifice fly scored Hebert from third base.

- Natalie Fields collected two hits in the nightcap.

- Grace Pustina recorded a complete game for the Eagles, striking out two batters.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will head to Aurora University on Sunday. Doubleheader action is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. from Montgomery, Illinois.
