12 Run Inning Fuels Eagles split with Muskies

VERONA, Wis. – Going into Sunday's conference doubleheader, Lakeland University was the top team in the NACC, only having lost one conference contest all season. The Edgewood College softball team handed the Muskies their second conference loss of the season thanks to a 12 run sixth inning in game one. The Eagles defeated the Muskies 15-7 in a six-inning game one. Lakeland took game two via a score of 3-2.

EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 15, LAKELAND UNIVERSITY 7 – 6 INNINGS (GAME ONE)
- Edgewood College (14-12, 5-5 NACC) trailed 7-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. Seven hits and 12 runs later, the Eagles would take down Lakeland University (23-5, 12-2 NACC) 15-7 in six innings.

- Lily Mabs opened the bottom of the frame with a walk. The Eagles first run of the inning would come across to score via a squeeze play at the plate from Natalie Fields. Just two at-bats later, Olivia Hebert blasted a home run over the left field fence to score three runs and tie the game at seven apiece. Jenna Sanchez and Camden Shepherd plated runs eight and nine via RBI singles. Gracie Halfman recorded a game ending double to score two runs and force the rune-rule victory.

- The Eagles held the lead back in the third, scoring three runs in the bottom of the frame and leading 3-2. The inning featured a three-run home run off the bat of Grace Ott.

- Hebert went 3-for-4, driving in four runs and scoring twice.

- Halfman added three hits and two doubles in the win.

- Ott scored twice, knocked in four Eagles and added two hits.

- Nikki Fahey earned the first win of her career, pitching 1.2 innings and allowing no hits. Tatum Duff got the start in the circle, pitching 4.1 innings.

LAKELAND UNIVERSITY 3, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 2 (GAME TWO)
- Unlike the opener, that featured 26 hits and 22 total runs scored, game two saw some defensive gems.

- The Eagles scored first in the nightcap, as Hebert plated Natalie Fields via a double to center field in the first inning.

- The Edgewood College 1-0 lead would hold through three innings, until the fifth frame. The third and fourth innings featured three-up-three down innings from both sides. Camden Shepherd was strong defensively for the Eagles, recording two stellar outs in the third inning and a diving out in the fourth. Natalie Fields added two stellar plays in right field in the top of the seventh frame to help hold the top of the Muskies lineup scoreless in the inning.

- Edgewood College, entered the bottom of the seventh inning with confidence following their game one come from behind victory. The Eagles loaded the bases and scored their second run via a sacrifice fly off the bat of Sanchez. The comeback fell just short in game two, despite having the winning run in scoring position.

- Five different Eagles recorded a hit in the nightcap, including a double from Hebert.

- Grace Pustina earned the start in the circle for the Eagles. She struck out two batters and scattered four hits. Grace Baugnet came in for 2.2 innings of relief, allowing just one run.

- Madi Johnson earned the win for the Muskies in game two. She struck out two batters and only allowed five hits.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Fields improves her hitting streak to nine games and her reached base safely streak to 12 games.

- Hebert now owns 19 home runs in her career, which moves her into third most in program history. She also owns 36 runners caught stealing, which is second best in program history behind Sabrina Luedtke with the career mark of 41.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will head to Alverno College on Monday. Doubleheader action is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
