Eagles earn split with Falcons in Mequon

MEQUON, Wis. – The Edgewood College softball team strung together four innings of scoring to defeat Concordia Wisconsin for the first time since 2016 on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles opened the conference doubleheader with a 7-4 win over the Falcons. Concordia Wisconsin took game two 10-1 for the split.   

EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 7, CONCORDIA WISCONSIN 4 (GAME ONE)
- Heading into the fifth inning, Concordia Wisconsin (10-8, 4-2 NACC) led Edgewood College (13-11, 4-4 NACC) 3-1. Edgewood College had remained patient at the plate, recording five of their 12 total hits on the game through the first four innings. Olivia Hebert scored the Eagles first run in the fourth frame, a solo home run to left center field.

- The Eagles bats came alive in the final three innings, plating two runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh frames to earn the 7-4 victory over the Falcons.

- Grace Ott got things going in the fifth inning, plating two runners on a single to right center to tie the game a three apiece. Alyse Maurer led off the sixth inning with a home run to give the Eagles a 4-3 lead, and they never looked back. Natalie Fields plated Camden Shepherd later in the sixth frame to take a 5-3 advantage.

- Maurer led Edgewood College, going 3-for-3 with a solo home run. Fields, Ott, and Jenna Sanchez each added two hits in the victory. Edgewood College totaled 12 hits in the opener.

- Tatum Duff went the distance for Edgewood College. She struck out three Falcons, scattered eight hits, and allowed just three earned runs on the afternoon.

CONCORDIA WISCONSIN 10, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 1 – 5 INNINGS (GAME TWO)
- Emma Shellstrom was key for the Falcons in the circle in the nightcap. Shellstrom struck out five batters and scattered seven hits, only allowing one run to score from Edgewood College.

- Concordia Wisconsin posted a five-run first inning to take an early lead. They tacked on two runs in the second and three runs in the fourth frame for a 10-0 score. Edgewood College scored in the top of the fifth inning, thanks to an RBI single from Hebert to score Sanchez.

- Grace Pustina went three innings for Edgewood College in the circle, striking out one batter and recording five hits. Nikki Fahey came in to pitch the final inning for the Eagles.

- Edgewood College managed seven hits in the nightcap. Six different Eagles recorded a hit, with Sanchez leading the way with two hits. Hebert posted the Eagles sole RBI.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles snapped a 12-game losing skid against Concordia Wisconsin. The last Eagle victory over the Falcons came back on April 21, 2016. On that date, the Eagles and Falcons split, with Edgewood College taking game on of that series 3-0, before falling 10-2 in the nightcap.

- The Falcons narrowly lead the series 38-37 all-time.

- Fields has now reached base safely in the last 10 contests for Edgewood College. She also currently owns the Eagles longest active hitting streak, at seven games.

- Edgewood College will host Lakeland University on Sunday, April 14. Doubleheader action is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. from Ceniti Park.
