CLERMONT, Fla. – The Edgewood College softball team evened its overall record and improved to 3-1 on its Florida trip with an 8-3 win over Rivier on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles took care of the Raiders behind four runs in the fifth inning, tacking four more runs between the sixth and seventh innings.
EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 8, RIVIER 3
- Edgewood College (5-5) and Rivier (5-4), meeting for just the second time in history, were scoreless for the first three frames. The Raiders scored first in the bottom of the fourth, as a single to center field from Christina Panagiotopoulos plated Sophia Quinlan from third base.
- The Eagles quickly responded, scoring four runs in the top of the fifth frame. Alyse Maurer and Camden Shepherd both got on base with singles to left field. Natalie Fields was patient in the box, drawing a walk to load the bases following a pitching change from the Raiders. Olivia Hebert got the party started for the Eagles, emptying the base paths with a double to left field, giving Edgewood College the 3-1 lead. Grace Ott added her own double down the left field line to score Hebert from second.
- Rivier added two runs in the bottom of the fifth frame to bring the game back to a one run difference, 4-3. Edgewood College wasn't bothered, adding on a run in the sixth and taking a 5-3 advantage into the final inning.
- For good measure, the Eagles continued to tack on runs, scoring three in the seventh and taking advantage of fielding errors from Rivier.
- Hebert went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI. Carlie Odejewski went 3-for-4 with a run. Alyse Maurer went 2-for-2 with a run. Jenna Sanchez also added two hits and an RBI.
- The Eagles recorded five stolen bases on the afternoon, with Odejewski and Sanchez both totaling two swiped bases.
- Grace Baugnet earned her first win as an Eagle, striking out a batter through four innings of work. Elizabeth Malarski rounded out the final three innings on the mound for Edgewood College.
SUNY GENESEO 6, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 1
- The Knights (1-0) jumped out to a big lead with four runs in the third inning. A walk and two singles loaded the bases for Geneseo in the fourth frame. Brooke Fraas scored runners from second and third with a single up the middle. Tara Brochu followed that up with a double to right field that scored two more runs.
- Edgewood College responded next time on defense, with Alyse Maurer, Jenna Sanchez and Grace Ott turning a double play.
- The Eagles found there way onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth frame, as a single from Malarski scored Fields from second base.
- Ott led the Eagles, going 2-for-3 at the plate. The Eagles totaled six hits.
- Kaitlyn Schmitz earned the win for the Knights, striking out five batters.

- Edgewood College will return to action at The Spring Games on Monday. The Eagles will face Occidental College at 12:45 pm ET, followed by North Central College at 3:15 PM ET in Leesburg, Florida.
