LEESBURG, Fla. – The Edgewood College softball team earned a split on day three at The Spring Games on Monday. The Eagles opened the day with an 8-1 victory over Occidental College that featured a home run from Alyse Maurer and grand slam from Lauren Hillman. Edgewood College faced a tough North Central team following, falling to the Cardinals 3-0.
EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 8, OCCIDENTAL COLLEGE 1
- Edgewood College (6-6) saw the bats come alive against Occidental (1-9). Olivia Hebert got the party started in the first inning with a sacrifice fly to drive in Carlie Odejewski from third base.
- Alyse Maurer gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead with a solo home run to left field in the top of the second frame.
- Occidental would score there only run of the game in the bottom of the third frame.
- Lauren Hillmann came up clutch for the Eagles in the fifth inning. With two outs and bases loaded, Hillmann sent a ball over the fence in left center field to give Edgewood College the 8-1 lead.
- Hillmann went 2-for-2 at the plate, her first two hits as an Eagle. Hillmann added a run and career-best four RBI. Maurer added two hits, two runs, and three RBI.
- The Eagles were speedy on the base paths, recording six stolen bases.
NORTH CENTRAL COLLEGE 3, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 0
- North Central (7-1) coming off a win over No. 11 Bethel University, recorded 12 hits against the Eagles.
- The Cardinals opened scoring in the third inning, as Gracie Vlach scored from second base. Rachael Madsen plated a runner via a double to right center, but the Eagles cut down what would have been the third run scored in the inning on a picture-perfect relay from the outfield to end the inning.
- North Central would score their third and final run of the afternoon in the seventh inning.
- Grace Ott and Gracie Halfman each recorded a hit for Edgewood College in the nightcap.
- Juliana Maude earned the win for the Cardinals. Maude recorded five strikeouts over seven innings pitched. Tatum Duff went the distance for the Eagles, striking out three batters.

- Edgewood College will face Washington College and the University of Chicago on Tuesday, March 12. Action is set for 4:15 PM (EDT) and 6:15 PM (EDT), respectively.
