Eagles Swept by Regents in NACC Opener

VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College softball team faced Rockford University in their NACC and home opener on Friday afternoon. The Regents timely hitting, combined with errors in the Eagles defense led to the sweep of the Eagles, 5-3, and 8-6.

REGENTS 5, EAGLES 3 (GAME ONE)
- The Rockford University (9-5, 2-2 NACC) offense was steady in game one, recording 11 hits and scoring runs in the second, third, sixth, and seventh frames.

- Olivia Hebert was strong behind the plate for the Eagles, throwing out two runners on the afternoon.

- Edgewood College (9-9, 0-2 NACC) scored one run in the second, third, and fourth innings. The first run of the game came via a double off the bat of Alyse Maurer to score Gracie Halfman from first base.

- Hebert added a home run to center field in the third inning.

- The Eagles tied the game a three a piece in the fourth inning, as a single to right field from Camden Shepherd plated Halfman.

- Rockford continued to remain strong at the plate, scoring runs in the sixth and seventh to take the final 5-3.

- Halfman and Maurer recorded doubles on the afternoon.

- Tatum Duff pitched all seven innings for Edgewood College, striking out three and allowing three earned runs.

REGENTS 8, EAGLES 6 (GAME TWO)
- Edgewood College got on the board first in game two, as Maurer reached on a double to left center, later scoring in the inning from third base on a throwing error by the Regents. Shepherd came around to score for the Eagles in the second frame for the second run of the game. An RBI single from Natalie Fields plated Jenna Sanchez to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead after two innings of work.

- The Eagles held the Regents scoreless until the fifth inning. Rockford scored three runs in the top of the fifth frame to tie the game a three apiece. The Regents added on five runs in the sixth inning to take an 8-3 lead.

- Edgewood College mounted a comeback in the seventh inning that began with a single up the middle from Elizabeth Malarski, who would later come around to score the Eagles fourth run of the game. Pinch hitter Carlie Odejewski scored just a batter later to continue solid momentum for Edgewood College. Grace Ott plated Natalie Fields in the next at-bat on a single to left field to bring the Eagles within two runs (8-6) of the Regents.

- Fields went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run and RBI. Maurer added a double and a run in the nightcap.

- Grace Pustina got the start in the circle for the Eagles, going 6.1 innings and allowing three earned runs while striking out one batter.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will head to Alverno College on Monday. First pitch between the Eagles and Inferno is set for 12:00 p.m. from Milwaukee.
