TUCSON, ARIZ. – The Edgewood College Eagles baseball team wrapped up the Tucson Invitational Games Saturday night. They faced off with the Carleton Knights in non-conference action. After a slow start for the bats, the Eagles (6-6) came to life late, scoring 12 runs in the last three innings for a 12-10 victory over the Knights (1-3).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After both teams went scoreless in the first four innings, Carleton hit the board with three runs in the fifth inning. A double to right field, a triple to right field, and a wild pitch each scored a run. A sacrifice fly to right field in the sixth would make it 4-0 Knights.
- Edgewood College flipped the script in a big way in the seventh with six runs.
Carson Richter took advantage of a leadoff
Terry Tolliver Jr. triple to single him in through the right side.
Brevin Brisack batted in a run with a single to left field. The Eagles would load the bases and take full advantage.
Brooks Kalscheur walked in a run, while a
Kyle Sagan hit by pitch added another.
Jacob Minnear walked for another run before a Tolliver ground out to second base concluded the scoring in the Edgewood College half of the inning with a 6-4 lead.
- While Carleton would hang around with a run in the seventh and eighth, the Eagles would build on their advantage. Kalscheur doubled in two runs with a hit to left field. Sagan singled to right to bring home Kalscheur to solidify the Edgewood College lead at 9-6.
- The ninth inning saw plenty of action on both sides. Brisack sent a sacrifice fly to right field to tally one, while Kalscheur continued his strong performance with a two-RBI single to right field. The Knights would not go silently into the night. A two-RBI single to right field cut the advantage to 12-8, before another single to center field left the Eagles edge at 12-9. An error added another run for a 12-10 advantage, but Edgewood College's defense shut the door on the late rally for the victory.
