Pipers offense propels them past Eagles out west, Goodwin ties single-season triples mark

TUCSON, ARIZ. – Entering the second-to-last day of the Tucson Invitational Games, the Edgewood College baseball squad looked to carry their momentum into more nonconference action. They faced off with the Hamline Pipers. The Pipers (7-8) used a big sixth inning to put away the Eagles (5-6) 11-1 in a seven-inning affair.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- A three-run home run in the first kicked off the scoring for Hamline, with a RBI single in the second inning giving them a 4-0 lead.

- Neither lineup would manage much in the next three innings, but the Pipers would strike in the sixth. After loading the bases, a pair of singles would bat in three runs. Another walk would load the bases once more for a two-RBI single to solidify the Hamline advantage 9-0. A bases-loaded walk would give the Pipers a 10-0 lead after six.

- Hamline would tack on an insurance run in the top of the seventh with a single. Connor Goodwin would get Edgewood College on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the frame. The Eagles would load the bases as they looked to avoid the run rule, but the Pipers defense shut the door on the threat and the game.

TOP PERFORMERS
- Goodwin continued his strong stretch of play with a triple and a home run.

- Terry Tolliver Jr. and Carson Richter each had two-hit days. Richter would also hit a double.

- Drew Lenz fanned four from Hamline.

THE OPPOSITION
- Tyler Johnson hit 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBIs in the victory.

- Jacob Barmore added on three RBIs.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Goodwin's triple tied the Edgewood College single-season best. He now has five, sitting alongside Ryan Fields (2019), Andrew Handorf (2006), and Ryan Plonsky (2004).

- Goodwin has hit four triples in his last five games.
