ORLANDO, FLA. – The women's tennis squad found themselves locked in an intense battle in their second day of Spring Break Monday. They squared off against the Roger Williams Hawks. The Eagles (11-4) found themselves behind 4-3 late, but a comeback from
Cecile Fuchs and a victory from
Evelyn Taylor earned them a 5-4 win against the Hawks (12-5).
HOW IT HAPPENED

Ellie Murphy and
Madelyn Connaughty got doubles started on the right foot with an 8-1 victory. Fuchs and Taylor made it 2-0 with an 8-5 win in top billing.

Jewel Lindwall and
Maddy Coopmans battled valiantly in the second slot, falling to an 8-7 (10-8) final to send the two teams into singles with Edgewood College up 2-1.
- Roger Williams would strike first in singles.
Christina Ekkela lost 6-3, 6-1 while
Cassie Henderson dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision for the Hawks to take a 3-2 edge.
- Murphy got the Eagles back on the right footing, continuing a strong Spring Break with a 6-4, 6-1 match in slot four. Roger Williams would push to match point with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Lindwall in second billing.
- Down 4-3 on the day, Fuchs conceded the first set 4-6. The no. 1 singles player rallied, evening the match with a 6-4 victory in the second set and a 1-0 (10-6) tiebreaker.
- The match came down to Taylor in third billing. She excelled with everything on the line, winning 6-3, 6-3 to claim a comeback victory for Edgewood College.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The meeting was the first between the two programs since 2009. Each team has won one match in the series.

The Eagles will take a well-earned day off tomorrow before returning to the courts against a familiar foe on Wednesday. They will face off with the UW-La Crosse Eagles in Altamonte Springs, Fla. with first serve scheduled for 11:30 a.m. EDT in the eleventh battle in the series.
