Goodwin breaks stolen base record, Eagles down Augsburg

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Edgewood College baseball team opened their time at the Tucson Invitational Games with a run rule victory over Augsburg University. The Eagles downed the Auggies 15-4 in seven innings behind explosive hitting and a combined 12 strikeouts from the Eagles pitching staff. Connor Goodwin saved his historic stolen base for sixth inning, as he became the all-time leader in stolen bases for Edgewood College baseball.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trailing 4-0 entering the bottom of the second inning, Edgewood College (3-4) erupted for three runs. Terry Tolliver Jr. got the part started with a two-RBI in the park home run, while Kyle Sagan added an RBI single in the frame.

- The Eagles continued to roll in the third inning, as an RBI from Tolliver scored Dylan Carrington from third base. Ryan Ambrosy would plate two more Eagles before another Sagan single gave Edgewood College a strong 7-4 lead.

- Five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning from Edgewood College solidified a 12-2 lead. Connor Goodwin opened the bottom of the frame with a triple to right field. A bunt single from Colby Davis plated Goodwin. Tolliver continued his strong afternoon, scoring two more Eagles on a double to right field. A triple from Ambrosy plated Brooks Kalscheur and Tolliver for the 11th and 12th runs of the afternoon.

- The Eagles added three more runs in the bottom of the third frame and solidified the run-rule victory.

- Edgewood College finished the game with 11 hits and 15 runs. Tolliver was outstanding, with his home run and double. Sagan drove in three runs and added three hits. Kalscheur came across the score four times for the Eagles. Goodwin scored twice and added two hits. Ambrosy went 2-for-4 for the Eagles with a triple.

- Kody Kleve earned the win, striking out three batters. Ryan Mixey came in for the final four innings on the mound, posting a career-best seven strikeouts.  

THE OPPOSITION
- Ty Gage led the Auggies (0-6) with two hits, a run, and an RBI. He added a double.

- Keegan O'Connor recorded a triple.

- Myer Schmitz recorded three strikeouts through 2.2 innings pitched.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Goodwin's stolen base breaks the program record for stolen bases, with 72. He bested the previous mark set by Cory McCullick from 2006-09.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will face Crown College on Monday from Tucson. Action is set for 1:00 p.m. (MST)/3:00 p.m. (CDT) from Kino Sports Complex.
