Northwestern (MN) downs Edgewood College in nonconference action

MADISON – The Edgewood College Eagles men's tennis squad entered their final February match Saturday. They found themselves in a battle of Eagles with Northwestern (MN). Northwestern (4-0) found an easy go of things, winning 9-0 over Edgewood College (1-4).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Caden Nelson and Andrew Hoffmann found themselves locked in a hard-fought affair as the top doubles pairing. They lost a nailbiter in 8-7 (11-9) fashion.
 
- Jon Olafsson and Marek Woytasik dropped an 8-1 final in no. 2 doubles, while Alton Robinson and William Faley fell 8-3 in the third slot.
 
- Nelson lost 6-0, 6-4 in top singles. Woytasik was defeated in a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 affair in the fourth slot, while Ethan Towne conceded a 6-3, 6-1 final in sixth singles.
 
- After Northwestern (MN) clinched the victory, the final three singles outings were played in single sets with the first to eight points being called the winner.
 
- In second billing, Olafsson was toppled 8-4. Hoffmann found himself on the wrong side of an 8-3 final in the third slot and Robinson dropped a 8-5 tally as the no. 5.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The meeting evened the all-time series to two wins apiece for both programs.
 
UP NEXT
Edgewood College will take a break for a few weeks before heading off for their Spring Break trip. They will kick things off in Orlando, Fla. against the College of St. Scholastica. First serve is scheduled for Sunday, March 10 with time to be announced.
