JACKSON, MISS – The Edgewood College Eagles baseball squad entered game two of their 2024 campaign Saturday. They faced off with the Millsaps Majors as they looked for an opportunity to even the three-game series. The Eagles (1-1) held off a Majors (3-2) rally in the late innings to claim a 7-6 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
Connor Goodwin helped Edgewood College strike first, taking advantage of a leadoff walk from
Kyle Prindle to single him home through the right side in the opening frame.
- Multiple mistakes paved the way for multiple opportunities for the Eagles in the third inning. A
Dylan Carrington single to the shortstop brought home Prindle for the first unearned run, while Goodwin had his second RBI of the day with a shot to right field to score Carrington for a 3-0 edge after three.
- Edgewood College continued to build up their advantage through the next few innings.
Terry Tolliver Jr. hit a sacrifice fly to left field for an RBI after
Colby Davis stole third in the fourth inning. In the top of the sixth, an error gave Eagles extra life that
Kyle Sagan used to single in a run to right field for a 5-0 advantage.
- A pair of batters hit by pitch and two walks gave Millsaps bases loaded no outs with a run to start the bottom of the sixth inning. An error added to the Eagles' woes, scoring another run while a fielder's choice tacked on a third run. A walk with the bases loaded would wrap up the damage n the frame, leaving Edgewood College ahead 5-4.
- Multiple errors turned a Prindle fielder's choice into another run in the top of the eighth, which proved to be critical as the Majors would tie things up in the bottom of the frame. A bases loaded balk and a sacrifice fly to right field would leave things tied 6-6 after eight.
- Errors once again were the story of the top of the ninth.
Colby Davis reached first on an error by the center fielder, while on the same play
Brevin Brisack scored what turned out to be the game-wining run on a throwing error by the left fielder.
-
Jacob Krenn proved to be spotless in the bottom of the ninth, going three up and three down to ern a save and clinch the victory for the Eagles.
- The Majors finished with eight errors for the day.
