Eagles fall to pair of Iowa teams in nonconference tilts

MADISON – The Edgewood College men's tennis squad hosted a pair of Iowa squads at the Powless Tennis Center Saturday. They faced off with the Loras Duhawks and the Cornell Rams. The Eagles (0-3) fell to the Duhawks (2-2) 7-2 and the Rams (3-2) 8-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Caden Nelson and Andrew Hoffmann kicked things off against Loras on the right foot, winning an 8-3 affair in top doubles. Jon Olafsson and Marek Woytasik found themselves locked in a battle in the second slot but won a hard-fought affair in 8-7 (7-5) fashion.
 
- The two squads headed into singles after the Duhawks took an 8-3 victory over Alton Robinson and Ethan Towne. Loras rallied early, taking 6-2, 6-3 victories over Nelson in top billing and 6-1, 6-4 against Olafsson in the second slot.
 
- Hoffmann fell 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 as the no. 3 player, while Woytasik dropping a 6-1, 6-0 affair in fourth billing clinched the match for Loras.
 
- Robinson and Towne finished things up in the fifth and sixth tilts 6-2, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0 respectively.
 
- Against the Rams, Nelson and Hoffmann fought hard in an 8-6 loss in top doubles. Olafsson and Woytasik dropped an 8-3 affair as the second pair, while William Faley and Robinson fell just short in an 8-7 (7-4) battle in third doubles.
 
- Olafsson highlighted singles with the lone match point of the second tilt. He won 7-5, 7-5 in second singles.
 
- Nelson was defeated 6-2, 6-2 in top billing, while Hoffmann lost 6-4, 6-1 as the no. 3 player.
 
- Woytasik was tripped up 6-1, 6-2 in fourth singles. Robinson dropped a pair of 6-0 sets in the fifth slot, while Towne wrapped up the day with a 6-2, 6-4 defeat as the no. 6 player.
 
UP NEXT
The Eagles will host Buena Vista at the Powless Tennis Center as they continue their nonconference trek. First serve is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
