MADISON – Hosting an important Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) bout, the Edgewood College Eagles men's basketball squad faced off with the St. Norbert Green Knights on Senior Day at the Todd Wehr Edgedome. A late rally sent the Green Knights (19-4, 14-2 NACC) past the Eagles (8-16, 7-10) in 70-66 fashion.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- An all-senior starting lineup kicked things off on the right note for Edgewood College, as they held onto a 10-3 advantage after the first few minutes. A 9-4 sprint by St. Norbert just past the halfway point of the period pushed them within a possession at 19-17.
- Three-point sharpshooting kept the visitors at bay, three beyond the arc buckets in a row building up a 30-23 advantage for the Eagles. The Green Knights ended the half on a strong note, heading into the locker room down a bucket after an 8-3 stretch.
- Both teams went scoreless for the first 2:37 of the second half, but Edgewood College caught a hot hand once the scoring kicked off. Sticky hands and strong shooting fueled an impressive 13-4 rally and helped the Eagles take an 46-35 lead at 13:17.
- The two squads exchanged blows for the next eight minutes, the Edgewood College advantage not budging much until eight unanswered points from St. Norbert tied things up at 58 all with 3:06 left.
- A key three-pointer at 1:30 followed up by a pair of free throws would give the Green Knights their first multi-possession lead of the afternoon at 1:06. The Eagles would not go quietly into the night, key three-pointers from
Danny Mulcare at :39 and
Dawson Hughes at :07 keeping things alive, but St. Norbert made enough free throws to clinch the comeback.
- The Green Knights outshot Edgewood College from the field, 48.8 (21-of-43) percent to 37.3 (22-of-59) percent. Free throws were also a large factor, with St. Norbert holding a 22-to-13 edge in made free throws.
