Warriors down Eagles in regular season finale

MILWAUKEE, WIS. – The Edgewood College Eagles men's basketball squad wrapped up their 2023-2024 regular season slate Wednesday evening. They headed east to face off with the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action. The Eagles (8-17, 7-11 NACC) struggled offensively and fell 76-58 to the Warriors (20-4, 15-2).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College kept pace early, sitting tied at 10 after the first five minutes of play. Wisconsin Lutheran would set the tone for the evening over the next six minutes, their offense on full display as they went on a 17-1 rally to put the Eagles behind 27-11. Edgewood College would struggle to make much progress digging themselves out of their hole, heading into the locker room down 39-26.
 
- The Warriors continued to roll in the first half of the second frame. A 23-10 stretch in the first ten minutes left the Eagles down 62-32. Edgewood College would cut the lead in half over the next five minutes of play to 64-47 Wisconsin Lutheran with a strong 15-2 showing. The Eagles would struggle to make much headway from there as the Warriors claimed a commanding victory.
 
- Wisconsin Lutheran made the most of their opportunities, netting a 15-to-2 advantage in second chance points and a 34-to-14 edge in points in the paint.

- The Eagles shot 18-of-55 (32.7 percent) fromthe field in the loss.

TOP PERFORMERS
- Trey Traeder led the way with 18 points.
 
- Cade Ellingson was the other double-digit Edgewood College player, finishing with 11 points and 6 rebounds.

- Drew Houtakker grabbed eight rebounds while Luke Cervelli blocked a pair of shots.
 
THE OPPOSITION
-  Ryan Brockel had an outstanding outing, finishing with 18 points, 21 rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and five steals.
 
- Four other Warriors tallied double digit points, with Jacob Stoltz leading the way with 14 points. Grayson Goetz and AJ Vos added 12 and 11 points respectively. Jacob Helfie finished with 12 points.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles have lost twice in a row to Wisconsin Lutheran, but hold a 43-31 lead in the all-time series.
 
UP NEXT
Edgewood College finished the 2023-24 regular season with the defeat. They improved their record by one win over 2022-23. Houtakker earned a player of the week honor from the NACC for the week of December 5, while Trey Traeder claimed All-Tournament accolades from the Wooster Kiwanis Classic.
