Cougars ground Eagles in NACC action

RIVER FOREST, ILL. – The Edgewood College Eagles men's basketball squad battled in their first road test of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) season. They faced off with the Concordia Chicago Cougars. The Cougars (4-3, 2-1 NACC) took advantage of strong rebounding and more efficient shooting to defeat the Eagles (2-5, 1-1) 74-61.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two teams were tied 7-7 after the first five minutes thanks to a Danny Mulcare three-pointer. After a Matt Kirk three had Edgewood College ahead 10-9 at 13:41, Concordia Chicago pulled ahead 27-13 with an 18-3 run over the next 8:02. The Eagles would go without a field goal for 10:36 and headed to the locker room down 37-26.
 
- A 9-2 burst had the Cougars rolling to start the second half. Up 46-28 at 17:43, Concordia Chicago would never lead by less than double-digits in the second half. The Cougars led by 74-51 with 3:29 remaining, but Edgewood College finished strong with 10 unanswered points.
 
- Concordia Chicago dominated the paint, outscoring the Eagles 36-to-24. They also won the rebounding battle 42-to-33.
 
- Edgewood College shot 32.7 (18-of-55) percent from the field in the defeat.

- Sean Beckman led all scorers with 18 points. He earned a double-double with his 12 rebounds.
 
- Jaco Collicott tallied 12 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and four steals.
 
- Drew Houtakker paced the Eagles with 14 points and six rebounds. He also had a steal.
 
- Kirk finished with 11 points and five rebounds.
 
- Hunter Hardyman blocked three shots. Isaiah Hubanks earned eight points.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Hubanks' eight points were a career high.
 
- Hardyman's three blocks matched his personal best.
 
UP NEXT
Edgewood College will return home to start a three-game homestand at the Todd Wehr Edgedome. They'll face off with the Rockford Regents on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
