HILO, Hawaii – The Edgewood College women's basketball team opened play at the Big Island Holiday Classic on Monday evening. The Edgewood College offense struggled in a 92-57 defeat against Williams Baptist University. Turnovers doomed Edgewood College in the non-conference setback.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Through the first four minutes, Edgewood College (4-5) held tough with Williams Baptist (7-3). A layup from Kallie Norby with 7:24 on the clock tied the game at six a piece. Williams Baptist scored four three-pointers in two minutes to take a convincing 20-6 lead with 4:45 left in the first quarter. At the end of the first 10 minutes, Williams Baptist would lead Edgewood College 30-10. The non-conference foes shooting 52 percent (13-for-25) from the floor and 50 percent (4-for-8) from three-point range in the opening quarter.
- Edgewood College bounced back in the second quarter, scoring 18 points and shooting 40 percent (6-for-15) from the floor before halftime. Williams Baptist wouldn't slow down, scoring 22 points in the second quarter and leading 52-28 at halftime.
- Edgewood College scored in double-digits in the final two quarters, but consistent shooting from Williams Baptist was hard to overcome.
- In the end, 29 turnovers would doom the Edgewood College attack. Williams Baptist did well to take advantage of turnover opportunities, scoring 38 points off turnovers.
- Jordan Carlquist led the Edgewood College attack with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor.
- Kallie Norby collected 10 points, pulled down five rebounds, and dished out two assists.
- Vivian Guerrero led the Edgewood College rebounding effort with nine. The senior added four points and two assists.
- Mady VandeStreek posted eight points in 11 minutes on the court.
- Kenzie Senffner dished out a team-best four assists on Monday.
THE OPPOSITION
- Williams Baptist was led by Carmen Taylor who collected 26 points, going 12-for-18 from the floor and 2-for-6 from beyond the arc.
- Kaylee Isaacs (18 points), and Charmen Taylor (15 points) also scored in double-digits on Tuesday evening.
- Monica Horne collected 14 rebounds, dished out three assists and scored six points for the fellow Eagles.
- Williams Baptist shot 45.7 percent from the floor on Tuesday evening, including making seven from beyond the arc.
UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will have an off day in Hawaii before looking to rebound Wednesday against Fontbonne University. The Wednesday contest is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Hawaii, 5:00 p.m. central time.
