Gage’s overtime goal lifts Eagles past Warriors in NACC Tournament Quarterfinal

VERONA, Wis. – A goal from Connor Gage in overtime gave Edgewood College the NACC Tournament Quarterfinal Victory. The top-seeded Eagles faced the eighth-seeded Warriors of Wisconsin Lutheran at Edgewood College Field on Sunday afternoon. The cold and rain made conditions difficult; that coupled with a strong Warriors defense forced overtime following a scoreless 90 minutes. The Eagles earned the 1-0 overtime victory to advance in the NACC Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ahead of Sunday, only two teams did not allow a goal from Edgewood College (17-1-2) so far in 2024. Wisconsin Lutheran College (8-8-3) was the only NACC school to now allow a goal from the Eagles in the regular season. The Warriors continued to hold the Eagles scoreless after 90 minutes of regulation, forcing overtime.

- Just 1:45 into the 10-minute overtime period, Connor Gage converted a corner kick to take home the victory in golden goal fashion.

-  Edgewood College controlled play for most of the contest, taking 21 shots compared to just four from the Warriors.

- Warriors goalkeeper Puma Galvan recorded five saves to keep things close in regulation. Four of his saves came in the first half of action.

- Maverick Van Laanen went the distance in net for the Eagles, making one save.

- Gage led the Eagles with six shots on the afternoon. Riley Stevens added four shots, one on goal, while Aldon Lumani recorded two shots on goal.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- 17 wins is the most by a team in Edgewood College men's soccer history. The 1996 team held the previous best mark of 16.

- 16 wins for goalkeeper Van Laanen breaks the record for wins in a single-season, set by Justin Meyer in 2000.

- The Eagles have won their first NACC Tournament game since the 2013 season. It is the first tournament victory at home since the 2009 season.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will host fourth-seeded Aurora University on Wednesday, November 6. Action is set for 7:00 p.m. from Edgewood College Field at Reddan Park.
