CHICAGO, ILL. – The Edgewood College Eagles men's basketball squad continued their non-conference gauntlet Sunday afternoon. They faced off with the Chicago Maroons down south. The Maroons (3-1) used momentum from a strong first half finish to put away the Eagles (1-2) 77-57.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first four minutes were all Chicago. After a three-pointer at 15:55 the Maroons led 13-5. Edgewood College would not be deterred, racing back to a 16-16 tie over the next 3:06 punctuated by a three-pointer from
Matt Kirk.
- After Chicago pulled ahead 25-18, a pair of layups from
Drew Houtakker brought the Eagles back within a possession 25-22 at 7:11. The Maroons took over, holding Edgewood College to one field goal for the remainder of the half as they headed into the locker room up 40-24.
- A pair of three-pointers from
Danny Mulcare early in the second half helped the Eagles make progress, down 41-29 with 18:19 left. The Maroons would pull away over the next 4:52 on a 13-3 run for a 22-point advantage. Chicago led by as much as 24 down the stretch as the hosts put away Edgewood College.
- The Maroons dominated in the paint with a 42-to-28 advantage in points. The hosts also shot 50.8 (30-of-59) percent from the field.
- Houtakker paced the Eagles with 17 points and 9 rebounds.

Trent Tousana contributed 12 points and a pair of steals, while
Trey Traeder added three assists.
- Four from Chicago scored in double-digits. Luke Smith finished with a 14-point, 12-rebounds double-double shooting 7-of-9 from the field.
- Joe Berry's 18 points were the highest of any player on the floor. Thomas Kurowski and Jackson Piotrowski each had 10 points.

Edgewood College will continue their nonconference road swing Tuesday. They'll travel to Oshkosh, Wis. to face off with the UW-Oshkosh Titans. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
