Eagles sweep Falcons to claim second-straight NACC crown, punch ticket to NCAA Tournament

MADISON – The Edgewood College Eagles women's volleyball squad hosted their second-straight Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Championship at the Todd Wehr Edgedome Saturday. They faced off with the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons. The Eagles (24-9) avenged their only regular season conference defeat, sweeping the Falcons (18-11) 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-20) to earn their second-straight conference crown and punch their ticket to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Concordia Wisconsin had momentum early in the match. They carved out a 10-6 advantage early with seven kills and only one error. Edgewood College hung tough as they sought out their opportunity. Down 19-15 late, Abbey Eivins held serve for most of a 10-0 barrage, contributing a pair of aces and keeping the Falcons off balance as the Eagles rolled to a 1-0 lead.
 
- Five straight points featuring four kills from Katie Borchert had Edgewood College flying high to a 11-6 lead in the second frame. The Falcons clawed back to a 16-15 deficit after three straight points, but the Eagles responded with a 7-2 rally as the visitors struggled on offense. A pair of kills from Cassidy Spies would help seal a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
- Three blocks would fuel an early 6-3 edge for Edgewood College in set three, but Concordia Wisconsin found their opportunity in the middle of the frame. Down 10-6, they put together a 10-3 rally for an 16-13 edge as the Eagles dealt with errors. Edgewood College would flip the script on offense, four straight points including three kills helping them pull ahead 19-18. The Falcons would even the frame at 20 all, but the Eagles took control of the set and claimed their second-straight NACC Tournament title off the back of a 5-0 rally.
   
- Abigail Hoffmann continued to excel, posting nine kills, 12 assists, 12 digs, and four blocks. She also hit .267 on 30 swings.
 
- Eivins played a pivotal role setting and serving with 17 assists and a pair of aces.
 
- Spies earned a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs.

- Mia Hinkamper tallied 17 digs and eight assists in the victory.
 
- Abbey Falk and Payton Millin were key at the net with six blocks apiece.
 
- Borchert had an impressive outing. She earned 10 kills with a .360 hitting percentage on 25 attempts while also posting five blocks.
 

 
- Paige Stickney paced Concordia Wisconsin with eight kills and five blocks.
 
- Abby Profrock tallied seven kills and 12 digs.
 
- McKenna Oetzman posted a 19-assist, 12-dig double-double.
 
- Brianna Lundt anchored a tough Falcons defense with 16 digs.
 
- Edgewood College outhit Concordia Wisconsin .209-to.100.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- This was the first time in program history the Eagles have won back-to-back women's volleyball tournament titles. The title is their third in program history (2011, 2023).
 
- The 24 wins on the season is the program's most since the 2015 season.
 
- Edgewood College has won 12 in a row and only dropped one set during the NACC Tournament. They have earned victories in 22 of their last 24 matches.
 
- Hoffmann was named NACC Tournament MVP. Borchert and Spies were both selected to the All-Tournament Team as well.

The Eagles will wait and see who they will play in the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament Selection Show is scheduled for noon on Monday.
