ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Edgewood College women's basketball team faced their first ranked opponent of the 2024-25 season in No. 18 WashU on Friday evening. The Eagles faced the Bears in their first big test, falling by a score of 78-58. Jayden Nortier, Vivian Guerrero, and Kallie Norby each scored in double-digits in the Hyatt Place Tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- WashU (1-0) took advantage of 20 plus scoring efforts in the first and third quarters to take a confident 13-point lead over Edgewood College (1-1) going into the final quarter of action. In the end, the Bears took a 20-point lead with just three minutes remaining.
- A 13-4 run to start the third quarter brought the Eagles back within two points (43-41) of WashU with 6:20 remaining in the period. The Bears bounced back to outscore the Eagles 20-18 in the quarter.
- Edgewood College scored in double-digits in each quarter, showing shooting consistency despite facing a strong defense in WashU.
- The Bears pulled down 36 rebounds compared to 31 from the Eagles on Friday night.
- 21 of the Bears points on Friday night came off turnovers.
- Nortier led the Eagles with 13 points. The sophomore added three rebounds and two steals. Guerrero and Norby both recorded 12 points. Guerrero adding six rebounds and two blocks.
- The Eagles knocked down eight shots from beyond the arc on Saturday.

- Friday night's contest is the first meeting in program history between WashU and the Eagles.
