MADISON – The Edgewood College Eagles women's volleyball team kicked off the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournament at the Todd Wehr Edgedome Tuesday. They faced off with the MSOE Raiders in a Quarterfinal test. The Eagles (22-9) passed with flying colors, sweeping the Raiders (13-19) 3-0 (25-12, 25-11, 25-11).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College's service game had MSOE off balance from the first serve as they flew ahead 8-2. The Raiders would hang around, cutting the lead down to 12-8 before the Eagles took off into the stratosphere with an 11-1 barrage to effectively put away the first set.
- MSOE's service game got the better of Edgewood College early in frame two. They nursed a 4-3 edge before the Eagles roared to life with a 17-1 explosion to leave the Raiders at a 20-5 disadvantage they would never recover from.
- While a pair of service errors from Edgewood College would allow MSOE to hang around early in the final set, the Eagles would chunk away at their opponents. A 9-4 run put the hosts ahead 14-7, and an 11-3 follow-up would put the set and match to bed.
- Edgewood College dominated. They recorded 14 aces, 12 blocks and earned an .316 to -.102 advantage in hitting percentage.
-
Cassidy Spies had another strong showing with eight kills, four aces, two blocks, and seven digs with a .389 hitting percentage.
-
Payton Millin earned six kills and a .667 hitting percentage with three blocks.
-
Abbey Falk played a key role in clamping down on the MSOE offense with nine blocks.
-
Abigail Hoffmann did a bit of everything, tallying 10 assists, three aces, four blocks, and five kills.
-
Katie Borchert posted five kills and three blocks, while
Zoee Pond earned four kills and two blocks.
-
