MADISON, WIS. – The Edgewood College Eagles women's volleyball squad returned to the Todd Wehr Edgedome for the first of back-to-back home matches. They faced off with the Lakeland Muskies in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) battle. The Eagles (14-9, 7-1 NACC) dispatched the Muskies (7-16, 5-3) 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-15).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lakeland had momentum early with a 7-3 start, but the Edgewood College offense kicked into gear. Off the back of six kills and two aces the Eagles took an 11-9 lead. The Muskies would wrestle back to a 13-13 stalemate, but Edgewood College broke the set wide open with a 10-2 burst featuring seven kills on route to a 1-0 lead in the match.
- The Eagles hit .444 in the opening frame.
- The squads took turns exchanging blows throughout set two. After Edgewood College possessed an 8-4 advantage, Lakeland fished out a lead with a 6-1 rally. A strong service rally featuring two aces from
Cassidy Spies put the Eagles flying ahead 14-10, but five unanswered would have the Muskies up by a point. A 5-2 run put Edgewood College up with a pivotal 19-17 edge. Lakeland would struggle to overcome the deficit, never holding the lead again as the Eagles claimed the second set.
- Edgewood College fired off the blocks with a 7-1 burst featuring three aces in a row from Spies as they forced an early timeout from the Muskies. Four in a row had Lakeland clawing back within 10-9, but the Eagles kept them at arm's length with a 4-1 stretch. Edgewood College would effectively put the match to bed with seven unanswered for a 22-12 tally and finished off the set and match trading points with their conference foe.
- The Eagles offense had a strong showing once again. They hit .263 for the match with 45 kills and 10 aces and led all major statistical categories.
- Spies earned 14 kills, five aces, and 12 digs for a double-double. She hit .344 on 32 attempts.

Abbey Eivins helped run an efficient offense with 21 assists.

Abigail Hoffmann did a bit of everything. She earned a double-double with 10 kills and 12 assists while contributing six digs and an ace. She hit .333 on 21 swings.

Abbey Falk paced the team with four blocks.

Katie Borchert recorded nine kills, while
Kate Gunderson hit four aces.

Jennacy Wille recorded nine digs.
Mia Hinkamper earned 10 digs and 8 assists.
- Susana Stevens led both teams with 15 kills. She reached a .242 hitting percentage on 33 attempts.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles have hit .217 or better as a team in their last five matches. Edgewood College is tied for second in the league with a .182 hitting percentage as a team.
- Falk and
Payton Millin are first and second in the NACC in blocks per set with 1.29 and .95 blocks per set respectively.
- Spies' five aces were a personal best. Gunderson's four aces were a season high.
- The Eagles and Muskies have each won the last home outing in the series by a 3-0 final.
