VERONA, Wis. – The two unbeaten teams in conference play faced off on Wednesday evening at Edgewood College Field. Edgewood College came out on top over Dominican University by a score of 2-0. The Eagles earn a NACC tournament berth, top spot in the conference, and first program win over the Stars.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Through 30 minutes on Wednesday night the top teams in the NACC were going toe-to-toe. Edgewood College (12-1-2, 7-0-1 NACC) broke through in the 40th minute, as a bouncing corner kick launched off the shoulder of Jack Knight and into the back of the net.
- The Eagles 1-0 lead would hold until the 86th minute, when Cristian Torres-Gale took the Dominican University (8-4-3, 5-1-2 NACC) goalkeeper by surprise and scoring on a one-on-one opportunity with the keeper.
- Edgewood College led Dominican 23-10 in shots on the evening, with nine on goal.
- Maverick Van Laanen recorded the shutout victory in goal for the Eagles. The junior collected seven saves in the contest, three crucial saves coming in the second half to hold the Stars at bay.
- Connor Gage led the Eagles with seven shots, three on goal. Brandon Kaup wasn't far behind, with five shots of his own.
- Dominican featured three goalkeepers on Wednesday night, with Oscar Cerritos managing four saves.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College earns their first victory over Dominican in program history. Prior to Wednesday, the Stars owned 23 wins over the Eagles. Two contests between the two programs have finished as a tie.
- The Eagles remain a perfect 8-0 at Edgewood College Field in 2024.
- An unbeaten 7-0-1 record in conference play gives Edgewood College the first berth to the NACC Tournament. The Eagles remain the only unbeaten team in conference play.
