MEQUON, WIS. – The Edgewood College Eagles hit the road for a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) showdown. They faced off with the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons. The Falcons (10-9, 5-1 NACC) got the better of the Eagles (12-9, 5-1) in a 3-2 (25-23, 25-19, 12-25, 23-25, 18-16) battle.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Concordia Wisconsin's service game helped fuel a 10-3 rally as they pulled away early in the first set. Edgewood College clawed ahead 20-18 off the back of a 15-5 rally before the Falcons answered to tie the match at 22-22. Concordia Wisconsin's offense kicked into gear with three-straight kills sealing the 1-0 lead.
- Edgewood College's offense struggled in set two, with four points in a row helping push the Falcons ahead 9-3. The gap proved to be stubborn with Concordia Wisconsin keeping the visitors at arm's length as they took a 2-0 lead in the match.
- The Eagles kicked into gear frame three with an 8-1 barrage pushing them ahead 11-5. Edgewood College poured it on, leading by as much as 14 as they made their mark on the match cutting the Falcons' lead to 2-1.
- The Eagles offense sputtered early in set four as errors helped fuel a 13-8 lead for Concordia Wisconsin. Edgewood College soared ahead with a 10-2 burst including four kills in a row for an 18-15 lead. Concordia Wisconsin evened the match at 19-19 as the two teams jockeyed for position, but the Eagles were clutch late with three points to force a fifth set.
- Edgewood College shot off the line in the fifth set, holding onto a commanding 8-2 lead early. The Falcons stormed back with a 7-1 burst with five kills to even the match at 9-9. The two teams wrestled for control of the match as they headed into extra points, but Concordia Wisconsin put together two points in a row to take the set and match 18-16.

Cassidy Spies recorded a double-double with 16 kills and 13 digs, leading the squad in both categories. She hit .324 on 37 attempts.

Abbey Eivins paced the Eagles with 21 assists and earned a double-double with 12 digs.

Abigail Hoffmann swung for 12 kills while
Kate Gunderson earned 10 assists.
- The Falcons played a stout defensive game, outblocking Edgewood College 8-to-4 and winning the digs battle 62-to-50.
- Noelle Smith led both teams with six blocks, while Skylar Kumprey tallied 13 kills
- McKenna Oetzman earned 22 assists and 16 digs.

- Concordia Wisconsin leads the all-time series 32-27.

The Eagles will look to get on the right track with another road NACC showdown. They will take on the Aurora Spartans in a rematch of last year's NACC Tournament Final on Thursday. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Aurora, Ill.
