MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's basketball team moved to 4-0 in conference play on Saturday after defeating Marian University 77-66. After trailing 44-39 at halftime, the Eagles held the Sabres to nine points in the third quarter and managed to take a 57-53 lead going into the final 10 minutes. Edgewood College held on for the victory timely shooting and double-doubles from both Vivian Guerrero and Kallie Norby.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Three point makes were crucial for Edgewood College (5-8, 4-0 NACC) on Saturday afternoon, as they earned a come from behind victory over Marian University (3-10, 1-3 NACC). With just under five minutes remaining in the third quarter, the Sabres led the Eagles 53-47. Edgewood College took the lead with three-straight three-point makes from Kenzie Senffner and Adrienne Kirch. The Eagles took a 57-53 lead into the final quarter.
- The Eagles shot 50 percent (5-of-10) from the floor in the final 10 minutes, scoring 20 points and holding on for the victory.
- Edgewood College opened the game with a 10-6 lead through the first four minutes, but a 10-5 run from Marian gave the Sabres a 23-20 lead to end the first 10 minutes of action.
- Kenzie Senffner scored a team-high 17 points scoring on 5-of-11 from beyond the arc. Senffner added eight rebounds and three assists.
- Guerrero posted her seventh double-double of the season, this time with 12 points and 12 assists. Guerrero also dished out five assists and added two blocks.
- Norby recorded a 16 point, 10 rebound double-double. Six of Norby's rebounds came on the offensive side of the ball.
- Jayden Nortier posted 14 points and pulled down five rebounds.
THE OPPOSITION
- Kiara Williams posted a 19 point, 12 rebound double-double for Marian. Chelsea King added 24 points to lead all players in points scored.
- The Sabres shot 41.9 percent (26-of-62) from the floor on the afternoon. Marian produced their best shooting in the second quarter, recording a 60 percent (9-of-15) mark.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles 4-0 start to conference play is their best since the adjusted 2020-21 season when the Eagles opened with an 8-0 record.
- Edgewood College is the only remaining team in the NACC with an undefeated conference record. The Eagles top the conference at 4-0, with Aurora trailing with a 4-1 conference mark.
