Balanced Effort leads Eagles past Spartans

AURORA, Ill. – The Edgewood College women's basketball team posted three quarters of 50 percent or higher shooting to lead them past Aurora University on Wednesday. The Eagles combined strong defense and balanced shooting to defeat the Spartans 63-57 in the evening NACC contest. Four Eagles scored in double digits on the evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (6-8, 5-0 NACC) got out to an early 8-4 lead following an early three point make from Kallie Norby. Aurora University (11-4, 4-2 NACC) added five more points before the end of the first quarter, but three-pointers from Kenzie Senffner and Jayden Nortier proved to be the difference as Edgewood College took a 15-9 lead into the second quarter.

- Aurora responded in the second quarter, outscoring the Eagles 19-13 and tying the game up at 28 going into halftime. The Spartans shot a game-best 56.25 percent (9-of-16) from the floor in the quarter, including three makes from beyond the arc.

- It was back and forth between the Eagles and Spartans in the first three minutes of the third quarter, before a 10-5 run gave the Eagles a 41-38 advantage with 4:17 remaining. The Eagles would end the quarter with a seven-point lead (48-41) after shooting a game-high 58.33 percent (7-of-12) from the floor.

- Aurora kept the game close through the final 10 minutes. The fourth quarter opened with three-point makes from Macy Kocen of Aurora and Kallie Norby of Edgewood College. The Spartans came within two of the Eagles (55-53) with 4:22 remaining, but three made free-throws from Vivian Guerrero solidified the Eagles five point advantage.

- Norby led the Eagles in scoring with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including 2-of-2 from beyond the arc. Nortier joined Norby in double-digit scoring with 15 points.

- Grace Vesperman posted a career-best 12 rebounds for the Eagles.

- Vivian Guerrero and Kenzie Senffner did a bit of everything on Wednesday night. Guerrero posted 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Senffner recorded 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists.

- Edgewood College continued to prove that 40 plus rebounds is a key to victory, as they recorded their fourth straight game with 40 or more rebounds. 41 was the magic number on Wednesday evening, as six rebounds came on the offensive side of the ball.

THE OPPOSITION
- Selena Vargas posted a 10 point, 10 rebound double-double for the Spartans.

- Macy Kocen led Aurora in scoring with 12 points. Gabrielle Wolff (11 points) and Delani Kosner (10 points) also scored in double digits.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will head to MSOE on Saturday in hopes of keeping their conference unbeaten streak alive. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m. from Milwaukee, Wis.
