MADISON, Wis. – On Wednesday evening, head coach Chaia Huff earned her 100th victory as an Eagle where her first occurred, the Todd Wehr Edgedome. The Eagles laid claim to their 10th victory in conference play via a 63-46 win over Concordia Chicago. The victory was a team win, as four Eagles scored in double-digits on Wednesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (11-9, 10-1 NACC) played tight with Concordia Chicago (5-15, 2-9 NACC) through the first 10 minutes of action on Wednesday night. The Eagles opened with a 14-9 lead, before the Cougars would score eight straight points to take a 17-14 lead. Through the final minutes of the first quarter it was a three-point shooting battle. Kenzie Senffner knocked down a shot from beyond the arc to tie the game at 17 a piece, before Melia Perry gave the Cougars a 20-17 lead to end the period.
- Neither team shot particularly well in the second quarter, as the Eagles earned the 11-6 advantage. Edgewood College escaped with a two point lead (28-26) going into halftime.
- The Eagles came out of the break determined to solidify a victory. Edgewood College held Concordia Chicago to just 12 points in the third quarter and capitalized on strong shooting and ball management to take a 10 point lead (48-38) going into the final quarter.
- An 11 to one run to open the fourth quarter solidified a 20 point lead (59-39) for the Eagles, with four minutes remaining in the contest. Concordia Chicago scored seven points down the stretch, but it wasn't enough to stop the Eagles.
- Vesperman posted a career-best 14 points and pulled down six rebounds. She added four assists and a career-best five steals.
- Vivian Guerrero led the Eagles in scoring with 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor. She added eight rebounds, four assists, and five blocks.
- Kallie Norby posted a 13 rebound, 10 point double-double on the evening. Six of her 13 rebounds came on the offensive side of the ball.
- Jayden Nortier was consistent for the Eagles, posting 12 points and adding three assists.
THE OPPOSITION
- Cydnei Mitchell led the Cougars with 12 points. Abby Kulig added nine points and five rebounds.
- Alisyn MacGregor posted 12 rebounds for Concordia Chicago.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Head Coach Chaia Huff has amassed 100 wins over eight seasons at the helm of the Edgewood College women's basketball program. Since the 2017-18 season she has never recorded less than 11 wins in a season. Her best season included 25 wins (2019-20), when she led the Eagles to win the NACC Tournament.
- The Eagles snap a two-game skid vs the Cougars and lead the all-time series 16-7.
