MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's basketball team earned their first victory of 2024 in a 77-43 win over Illinois Tech. Balanced shooting and strong defense were the name of the game, as the Eagles remained undefeated in conference play on Wednesday. Vivian Guerrero and Kallie Norby each collected a double-double in the Eagles victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (4-8, 3-0 NACC) got off to a quick 11-0 lead through the first four minutes of action. Four of the Eagles five starters made an immediate scoring impact in the opening minutes. The Eagles would finish the quarter with a 17-14 lead.
- The Eagles continued to pour on the attack in a second quarter that saw five makes for Edgewood College from beyond the arc. Jayden Nortier, Kenzie Senffner, Adrienne Kirch, and Molly Garrity each contributed to three-point shooting that catapulted the Eagles to a 25-point quarter and a 19 point (42-23) lead at halftime.
- Rebounds proved to be a big difference maker, as the Eagles dominated the boards 49 to 28. The Eagles also pulled down 14 offensive rebounds, eventually turning into 17 second chance points.
- Edgewood College led by 24 points (57-33) going into the final quarter. The Eagles shot a game-high 69.2 percent (9-of-13) in the final quarter and took their largest lead in the final seconds on a free throw from Samantha Brady.
- Every Eagle scored three or more points in the victory.
- Guerrero posted a 14 rebound, 12 point double-double to lead the Eagles. Norby added the Eagles second double-double of the night, 12 points and 11 rebounds. Jayden Nortier led the Eagles scoring with 16 points. Nortier also dished out six rebounds. Guerrero, Norby, and Nortier each shot 6-of-9 from the floor.
THE OPPOSITION
- Grace Goonough and Chloe Churilla both recorded eight points for the Scarlet Hawks. Churilla pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and dished out three assists.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College shot the ball well on Wednesday evening, recording 50 percent (31-of-62) shooting from the floor. The mark goes down as their third highest shooting percentage of the season. The only higher shooting marks came against conference opponents in Wisconsin Lutheran (55.3 percent) and Rockford (53.2 percent).
- Kirch impressed for the Eagles, scoring a career-best eight points and knocking down two from three-point range.
