Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Stars rise past Eagles in overtime thriller

MADISON – The Edgewood College Eagles men's basketball squad returned to the Todd Wehr Edgedome Wednesday night. They hosted the Dominican Stars in overtime Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action. The Stars (8-10, 5-6 NACC) rallied late to force overtime and took down the Eagles (8-11, 7-6) in 76-71 fashion.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Dominican commanded the first eight minutes of action, leading by as many as ten points as Edgewood College struggled early. The Eagles would heat up, closing within 20-18 off an 8-2 rally at the 7:49 mark. While the Stars would find a little more short-term breathing room, Edgewood College would all but erase the lead as they went into the locker room down 35-34.

- After staying neck and neck for the first minutes of frame two, the Eagles found serious momentum. A 13-1 run fueled by several steals and fast break points pushed them ahead 52-41 with 12:33 remaining in regulation.

- Dominican struck back over the next six minutes, an 11-3 reply pushing them within a possession at 55-52 with 6:25 left. Neither squad would lead by more than a score for the rest of regulation. A Drew Houtakker jumper at 1:06 pushed the Eagles ahead by two, but a jumper in the paint with 36 ticks left followed by a miss from both squads would force overtime at 67-67.

- The Stars would never trail in overtime after making the first jumper at 4:02. Edgewood College would hang around but were unable to make the most of their opportunities as they fell to Dominican, who netted four points off Eagles turnovers in the bonus period.

- The Stars made the most of their bench and second chance points, with a 13-to-4 advantage in the former category and a 27-to-14 edge in the latter.

- Houtakker led all shooters with 20 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Trey Traeder and Cade Ellingson tallied 16 and 11 points each, the latter nabbing two steals.

- Dawson Hughes grabbed three steals and six rebounds.

- Jacob Riedl recorded an impact performance with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Joshua West led the visitors with 16 points and three steals.

- Andrew Bennett earned 19 points off the bench for Dominican.

- Edgewood College struggled with three-point shooting, finishing 4-of-20 (20 percent) from beyond the arc.
