VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's soccer team and Ripon College battled to a scoreless tie Wednesday night at Edgewood College Field at Reddan Park. Both the Red Hawks and Eagles battle to a tight contest that saw possession remain in the middle of the pitch for the majority of both halves. Ripon and Edgewood College both had strong chances in the second half, but saw both shots off the right woodwork.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (1-1-1) led the shots column with 12-7 after 90 minutes. Both teams only managed one shot on goal each.
- There were two strong opportunities from both teams, the first coming from the Eagles. Miguel Konde Gwo managed a close shot just seven minutes into the second half, but coming up short on the right woodwork. Jacob Oppeneer came close for Ripon (0-0-2), also finding the right woodwork following a free kick from just beyond the penalty area.
- Both goalkeepers managed just one save on the afternoon. Maverick Van Laanen's save came in the first half, while Sam Jahnke recorded his for the Red Hawks after the break.
- Konde Gwo and Noah Hook were busy for the Eagles, both managing five shots. Hook's shot was the only Eagle shot on goal. Finley Manning recorded two shots, one on goal for the Red Hawks.
- Edgewood College managed to possess the ball 52 percent of the contest. They spent 32 percent of their time in the attacking quarter of the field.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- This is just the Eagles second 0-0 tie since overtime was eliminated from regular season contests. The last 0-0 tie came on Friday, September 2 at Grace Christian University. The last 0-0 time prior to the 2022 season came on September 17, 2014 against Lawrence University.
