Eagles down Polars in non-conference action

VERONA, Wis. -  The Edgewood College men's soccer team turned on the offensive jets on Friday afternoon, defeating Crown College in non-conference action. The Eagles 4-2 victory is their highest scoring contest of the season. Genco led the Edgewood College with two goals, while Noah Hook netted his first goal as an Eagle.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (2-1-1) took just 11 minutes to score their first goal of the contest. Noah Hook took on the Crown defense before finding the back of the net to score his first goal as an Eagle. The Eagles would go up 2-0 in the 35th minute following an own goal from the Crown defense.

- Sal Genco entered the gameand quickly made an impact, give the Eagles a 3-0 lead just four minutes into the second half. Genco expertly converted a pass from Miguel Konde Gwo for the convincing lead.

- Crown College (0-3-0) found the back of the net twice late in the second half to cause concern on the Eagles bench. Timmy Jackson netted both goals for the Polars and brought the score to a 3-2 mark with just ten minutes remaining.

- The Eagles quickly put offensive pressure back on the Polars. Ultimately, Edgewood College shut the door on the contest after scoring their fourth and final goal in the 82nd minute. Aldon Lumani made an expert cross to Ray Walsh. Walsh crossed the ball in via header and found the foot of Genco for the goal.

- Edgewood College outshot Crown 18-11, putting seven shots on goal.

- Maverick Van Laanen and Ty Bienema split time in goal for the Eagles. Bienema making three saves in the second half.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles 2-1-1 start to the 2023 season is the best since 2018.

- Genco's two goals goes down as a career-best mark.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will play game four of a seven game home stand on Saturday. Action against Monmouth College is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. from Goodman Sports Complex at Madison College.
