VERONA, Wis. – With seven regular season contests remaining, the Edgewood College men's soccer team earned their seventh victory of the season over Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday. The Eagles defeated the Warriors 2-0 in conference play. It was a solid victory on both sides of the pitch, with 20 different Eagles making an appearance.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College's (7-4-1, 3-2-0 NACC) first goal of the night came off the head of Spencer Hubbard in the 37th minute. The sophomore converted a pass from Leo Krause off the left post, sending the ball past the Warriors goalkeeper from five yards out. Hubbard's goal was his first as an Eagle. The 1-0 advantage would stand as the only goal in the first half of action.
- The Eagles defense continued to battle. Wisconsin Lutheran College (5-3-2, 3-2-0 NACC) put the pressure on, taking seven shots in the first half and forcing the Eagles to make three saves.
- Edgewood College tacked on their second goal of the afternoon, with Miguel Konde Gwo netting his 10th goal of the season in the 67th minute. Austin Hauser assisted on Konde Gwo's goal. The Eagles would hold out a comfortable 2-0 lead with just under 24 minutes remaining in the second half.
- Edgewood College would hold on to the victory, being outshot 16-12 by the Warriors. Eight different Eagles took a shot on the afternoon. Hauser leading the bunch with three shots.
- Maverick Van Laanen played a critical role in the contest, making five saves for the Eagles.
- Tony Bedolla led the Warriors with four shots, one on goal. Puma Galvan recorded two saves in net for Wisconsin Lutheran.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Saturday's win was a big moment for the Eagles, who have impressed many with a thrilling turn around in the 2023 season. The Eagles passed their six wins from the 2019 season and now have the best season on record since 2018. Edgewood College is poised to return to the NACC tournament, having done so last in 2018.
- Edgewood College continues to lead the all-time series vs the Warriors 37-10-2. They snap a two-game skid vs Wisconsin Lutheran.
