VERONA, Wis. – Excitement was in the air at Edgewood College Field at Reddan Park on Sunday morning, as the Edgewood College men's soccer team earned their first win of the season, a shutout against Lawrence University. Home field advantage and a good crowd proved to be just the spark the Eagles offense needed to secure a victory. The Eagles dominated the second half and earned the 2-0 shutout win over the Vikings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (1-1) and Lawrence University (0-2) played 45 minutes of scoreless soccer as the heat began to ramp up on Sunday morning. The Eagles managed five solid opportunities in the first half of action, but struggled to put the ball on target. The Vikings took three shots in the opening period, their only shot on goal coming in the early goings.
- Just five minutes into the second half, Miguel Konde Gwo recorded his first goal as an Eagle. Aldon Lumani's corner kick found Konde Gwo's head to put the Eagles up 1-0.
- Edgewood College solidified the victory in the final minutes, as Konde Gwo again converted a corner kick from Lumani.
- The Eagles defense held strong control, only allowing six shots from the Vikings.
- Noah Hook was strong on the attack for the Eagles, recording five shots, two on goal.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles win their first home opener since the 2018 season. Lumani appeared in the Eagles last home opening victory on September 5, 2018. The contest was a 3-0 victory over Coe College.
- Tim Bruner records his first victory as head coach of the Eagles.
