VERONA, Wis. – Miguel Konde Gwo broke a 2-2 tie in the 79th minute, helping the Edgewood College men's soccer team to a Wednesday night Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win over Benedictine University. The win is the second conference victory for Edgewood College and snaps a two-game skid.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (6-4-1, 2-2-0 NACC) controlled the ball well through the first half, giving very few opportunities to Benedictine (2-6-1, 1-3-1 NACC). Sal Genco found the back of the net first for Edgewood College, scoring in the 25th minute, assisted by Noah Hook.
- Just six minutes later, Konde Gwo would net his first goal of the night to give Edgewood College a convincing 2-0 lead into halftime.
- Benedictine turned the tables on Edgewood College in the second half, scoring two goals just two minutes apart. With 58:27 on the clock, Victor Antomez netted the first goal for Benedictine. In the 61st minute, Habtamu Kruiskwyk scored the equalizer.
- Just when it looked like both teams would play to a draw, Edgewood College found another level. With just 12 minutes remaining, Konde Gwo netted his second goal, this time assisted by Kevin Joyce in a flurry of action.
- Edgewood College outshot Benedictine 17-3 in the match. Konde Gwo led Edgewood College with four shots, two on goal.
- Ty Bienema recorded five saves for Edgewood College in his second start of the season.
