WHEATON, Ill. – The Edgewood College Eagles women's tennis squad wrapped up their stay down south Saturday. They played against the Lake Forest Foresters in another non-conference tilt Saturday morning. The Eagles (0-2) fell in 8-1 fashion to the Foresters (2-1).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Doubles started off with a thriller in top billing.
Cecile Fuchs and
Evelyn Taylor fell just short in a hard-fought 8-6 affair against Sofia Strupovets and Margaret Bugnacki. The tandem of
Ellie Murphy and
Madelyn Connaughty lost in 8-3 fashion in no. 2 doubles, while
Christina Ekkela and
Cassie Henderson struggled in an 8-1 loss in third doubles.
- Taylor continued her strong start to the season. She put together a dominant 6-2, 6-1 victory over Sara Lopez in no. 4 singles to tally Edgewood College's lone point. Henderson found herself locked in a dramatic match as the sixth singles player, losing in 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 fashion.
- Fuchs fell in top singles 6-2, 6-1, while
Jewel Lindwall lost in straight 6-1 sets in second billing. Murphy dropped no. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 result. Ekkela wrapped up the day with a 6-4, 6-2 loss in fifth singles.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Lake Forest holds a 6-1 advantage in the series and has won six straight over the Eagles.
UP NEXT
Edgewood College heads back to Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) play as they continue their four-match road trip. They will travel to Fond du Lac, Wis. to face the Marian Sabres with first serve scheduled for 3:00 p.m. The Eagles are 17-0 against the Sabres in the series and have swept three of the last four matchups.
