Eagles continue strong NACC start, defeat Green Knights

DE PERE, Wis. – The Edgewood College Eagles women's tennis squad continued their Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) campaign Friday evening. They traveled up north to De Pere, Wis. to face the St. Norbert Green Knights. The Eagles (4-2, 4-0 NACC) won their fourth straight in conference play, taking home an 8-1 final over the Green Knights (1-5, 0-4).

HOW IT HAPPEENED
- Edgewood College continued their strong play in doubles. Cecile Fuchs and Evelyn Taylor earned an 8-0 sweep in top doubles billing. The tandems of Jewel Lindwall/Maddy Coopmans as well as Ellie Murphy/Madelyn Connaughty tallied 8-1 finals in second and third doubles to earn all three points heading into singles.

- Fuchs carried her dominance into singles with a 6-0, 6-0 clean slate as the no. 1 singles player. Lindwall clinched the match in favor of the Eagles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory as the second seed.
 
- Taylor continued her quality play to start the season with a 6-2, 6-1 win in third singles.Mayghan Bongle bested Murphy in the fourth singles match with a 6-2, 6-3 tally. Coopmans and Christina Ekkela rounded out singles as the no. 5 and no. 6 with 6-4, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-1 scores.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Fuchs has now won three straight 6-0, 6-0 matches as the top singles player for Edgewood College.

- The Eagles have won four straight NACC affairs and have dropped no more than one match in the winning streak.

- Edgewood College leads the all-time series over St. Norbert 8-5.

UP NEXT
The Eagles enter a showdown on the road tomorrow against the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons. First serve is scheduled on 10:00 a.m. in Mequon, Wis. for a rematch of last year's NACC Tournament Finals. The Falcons won both matchups last year by 5-4 and 5-3 margins, but Edgewood College has a 12-11 series lead over their conference rivals.
