CHICAGO, Ill. – The Edgewood College women's soccer team opened conference play on the road Wednesday night. Illinois Tech handed the Eagles a 3-0 loss at Stuart Field. Goalkeeper Hailey Hartel was a highlight for Edgewood College, recording a career-best performance in net.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Illinois Tech (3-1-0, 1-0-0 NACC) wasted little time getting on the board Wednesday, netting their first goal at the 7:34 mark. Lucy Vanveldhuisen found the back of the net to put the Scarlet Hawks up 1-0, her goal assisted by Lucy Jorjorian.
- Edgewood College (2-2-1, 0-1-0 NACC) held the Scarlet Hawks in check through the end of the first half of action. Hartel played a big part in holding down the Eagles defense, making six saves before halftime.
- Vanveldhuisen added her second goal of the night just 5:39 into the second half of action. Her second goal also assisted by Jorjorian.
- Edgewood College recorded back-to-back opportunities to score. The first coming in the 54th minute from Greta Blau. The second, a shot on goal from Grace Johnson in the 55th minute.
- The Scarlet Hawks tacked on a third goal in the 74th minute, this time from Jayla Anaya, assisted by Jorjorian.
- Hartel added six saves in the second half for a career-high total of 12 in her NACC debut.
