VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's soccer team played under the lights at Edgewood College Field at Reddan Park for the first time in 2023, Wednesday. The Eagles hosted Illinois Tech to opened conference play and did not disappoint. Back-to-back goals for the Eagles in the first half aided a 2-1 victory, increasing the Eagles winning streak to three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (4-1-1, 1-0-0 NACC) found an offensive spark 20 minutes into conference action on Wednesday. It all began with Austin Hauser, who found the back of the net for the first time this season, assisted by Aldon Lumani. The 1-0 lead didn't stand for long, as Miguel Konde Gwo joined in on the scoring just a minute later, netting his fifth goal of the season to give the Eagles a thrilling 2-0 lead. Konde Gwo's goal was assisted by Hauser.
- The Eagles took a confident 2-0 lead over the Scarlet Hawks into halftime.
- Illinois Tech (1-2-3, 0-1-0 NACC) picked up their attack in the second half, taking 12 shots and scoring in the 86th minute. Logan Garcia scored for the Scarlet Hawks.
- Both teams finished even with 15 shots, three on goal.
- Maverick Van Laanen earned the win in net for the Eagles, making two saves on the evening.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles 4-1-1 start to the season is the best on record since 2017 when they opened with a record of 5-1
- The last time Edgewood College defeated Illinois Tech was on September 28, 2019. The Eagles now lead the all-time series 3-2.
