VERONA – The Edgewood College Eagles softball squad continued their Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) slate Saturday. They hosted Wisconsin Lutheran for a doubleheader at Ceniti Park. The Eagles (13-8, 3-2 NACC) swept past the Warriors (5-11, 0-4) in convincing fashion with a 10-1 (5 innings) victory in game one, followed by a 6-0 win in second billing.
GAME ONE: EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 10, WISCONSIN LUTHERAN 1 (FIVE INNINGS)
- Both pitchers cruised along until the fourth inning. A double steal attempt put the Warriors' lone run on the board, but
Tatum Duff got out of the jam with minimal damage.
- A
Grace Ott no-doubter to left field sent in two to start a 10-run fourth for the Eagles.
Gracie Halfman singled to right to send another home, while
Kya Loffswold and
Alyse Maurer walked with the bases loaded to tack on two more.
Jenna Sanchez doubled down the left field line to let two touch home plate. Ott came up for more damage with a single to right, while a
Elizabeth Malarski single through second base scored two.
- Duff found herself with runners on second and third in the bottom of the inning to prevent a run-rule victory, but a grounder to the pitcher ended any threat of extending the game. She earned the complete game victory with only one run allowed as she painted the corners.
- Ott was the spark that rallied the Edgewood College offense, hitting two-of-three with three RBIs in the rout.
GAME TWO: EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 6, WISCONSIN LUTHRAN 1
- Small ball with assists from the defense got the Eagles offense on the board in the third. A bunt single from Maurer tallied the first run, while Ott continued to do damage with a single to center field to leave things at 2-0 Edgewood College.
- A Sanchez double to left center opened a four-run fifth for the Eagles by scoring a run. Ott reached first on an error to tack on another. A Malarski double to right and a
Gaby Slater single to right each tacked on runs to wrap up the scoring a 6-0.
-
Grace Pustina seemed to be unhittable on the mound. She tossed a complete-game two hitter, tossing three strikeouts and walking two.
- Edgewood College continued to do damage up and down the lineup, with eight hitters recording hits.
Kya Loffswold was three-of-three and accounted for two runs.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles are now 46-24 against the Warriors and have won four straight.
- Pustina's shutout in game two was the first of the season for Edgewood College.
- The wins snapped a two-game losing streak.
