Eagles fall to bright Stars pitching staff in road doubleheader

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Edgewood College Eagles traveled down south Monday afternoon. They faced the Dominican Stars in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) doubleheader. The Eagles (13-10, 3-4 NACC) hung tough but fell shy twice in 2-1 and 4-2 losses to the Stars (15-3, 4-0).

GAME ONE: DOMINICAN 2, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 1
- The Eagles took early advantage of Stars mistakes to strike first. A bases loaded walk from Gracie Halfman put Edgewood College's lone run on the board.

- Dominican tied things up in the bottom of the fourth. A sacrifice bunt to second left it at 1-1.

- The Stars won on a walk-off single up the middle in the bottom of the seventh.

- Gaby Slater put together an impressive performance in the defeat, pitching a complete game and allowing only two runs. Kayla Faber-Cournane fanned five Eagles and tossed a complete game with no earned runs.

GAME TWO: DOMINICAN 4, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 2
- Once more the Eagles got on the board first. Alyse Maurer doubled to left in the first to tally the first run, while Slater doubled to left center in the fourth to leave things at 2-0.

- The Stars replied once more in the bottom of the fourth. A double to center field cleared loaded bases to send the eventual winning run across home plate. They tacked on an insurance run in the sixth with a double to left center to wrap up the scoring.

- Ryley Davis send in all four runs for the Stars. She hit two-of-three with four RBIs.

- Emma Woodhouse took him the win in the start for Dominican, while Faber-Cournane tallied a save. She threw 10 innings in total and allowed no earned runs.

-Tatum Duff threw a complete game in the loss, allowing only three earned runs and striking out a pair.

UP NEXT
Edgewood College continues their NACC slate with a doubleheader at Ceniti Field Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for noon against the Concordia Chicago Cougars. The Cougars hold a 22-11 advantage in the series, but the Eagles snapped a 10-game losing skid last year by splitting a pair of one-run games.
