MEQUON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Eagles baseball squad wrapped up their opening weekend of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play Monday. They played against Concordia Wisconsin in a doubleheader. The Eagles (8-7, 2-2 NACC) won game one 6-1 off a
Kyle Jungers gem, before falling short in a chaotic 8-5 loss to the Falcons (9-7, 1-1) in game two.
GAME ONE: EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 6, CONCORDIA WISCONSIN 1
- The Eagles struck first with help from Falcons errors in their first at-bats. A
Joseph Kalafut double to center field sent in
Kyle Sagan, while
Cooper Holewinski left things at 2-0 with a single through the right side. Concordia Wisconsin took advantage of a leadoff triple to bring in a run with a single to center in the fourth.
- Errors helped Edgewood College tack on insurance runs in the seventh. A Kalafut single to right brought in one of the earned runs of the inning. An error by first allowed
Kyle Prindle to get on base safely and sent in a pair of runs, while a Holewinski grounder into a double play allowed Kalafut to cross home.
- The Falcons would only send up seven batters in their last two turns to bat as Jungers wrapped up his complete game. He fanned four Concordia Wisconsin batters while allowing only five hits and a single earned run while navigating the complete game with only 83 pitches.
- Kalafut and Holewinski shined in the order for the Eagles. Both hit two-of-four, with Kalafut recording two runs, two RBIs, and a double.
GAME TWO: CONCORDIA WISCONSIN 8, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 5
- After a quiet first two innings, the Eagles got on the board first in the third. Kalafut and Prindle each had RBI singles through the right side to leave things at 2-0 after three.
- The Falcons bats got going in the fifth and they would only go scoreless in the seventh the rest of the way. A sacrifice fly and a double to left tied things up after five, while a double through the left side just barely fair left them ahead 3-2 after six.
- A wild pitch and a double down the left field line gave Concordia Wisconsin two more in the eighth, while a Holewinski single to left settled things at 5-3 after eight.
- The Falcons put on the winning runs in the top of the ninth. After getting a pair of free runners on board, a single to right, a sacrifice fly, and a wild pitch each had a runner crossing home. A series of defensive errors would put two runs on the board for the Eagles in the bottom of the frame, but their lineup ran out of outs as they fell 8-5.
- Zach Stone tossed seven innings and struck out nine in an impressive win and start for Concordia Wisconsin.
Gavin Vrana took the loss for Edgewood College.
-
Ryan Ambrosy was two-of-four in the second game and accounted for a run.

- Kalafut's double left him tied for the top spot for career doubles as an Eagle.
- Jungers' complete game took a total time of one hour and 46 minutes.
- The Falcons now hold a 42-34 series lead.
