MADISON – The Edgewood College Eagles women's tennis squad hosted a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournament semifinal matchup Friday at Quann Park. The Eagles, ranked second in the tournament, battled with the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors, the third seed. The Eagles (13-8) took care of business, taking a convincing 5-0 victory over the Warriors (9-10).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College swept through doubles.
Ellie Murphy and
Evelyn Taylor kicked things off as the third duo with an 8-2 win. The top pair of
Cecile Fuchs and
Madelyn Connaughty, as well as no. 2 pair
Jewel Lindwall and
Maddy Coopmans, claimed identical 8-3 victories.
- Fuchs and Coopmans wrapped things up in a hurry in singles. Fuchs took a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win as the no. 1, while Coopmans clinched the finals berth with a 6-0, 6-3 victory in the fifth slot.
Christina Ekkela was close behind as the sixth singles player, finishing her match up 6-3, 5-0.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles are now 20-2 against Wisconsin Lutheran since 2004-05. They have won 15 in a row in the series.
- Edgewood College has won by 9-0 margins in each of their victories over NACC schools this season.
UP NEXT
The Eagles will wait and see who they will battle with in the NACC Tournament Final. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at Pleasant Valley Tennis Club in Jackson, Wis. They will play either top-seeded Concordia Wisconsin or fifth-seeded St. Norbert.
