JACKSON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Eagles battled in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Final Sunday. They played against top-seeded Concordia Wisconsin as the two seed. The Eagles (13-9) battled valiantly with the tough Falcons (16-6) but fell short in a 5-3 defeat.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Concordia Wisconsin came out ahead in doubles.
Cecile Fuchs and
Madelyn Connaughty fell in 8-4 fashion as the top pair, but
Maddy Coopmans and
Jewel Lindwall banded together for a strong 8-4 victory in second billing.
Ellie Murphy and
Evelyn Taylor battled back after a tough opening but dropped an 8-6 defeat as the third pair.
- Edgewood College bounced back in the opening salvos of singles. Fuchs claimed a 6-4, 6-4 victory as the top seed, while Murphy won 6-4, 6-2 in no. 4 singles. Lindwall, Coopmans, and
Christina Ekkela each claimed a first set victory, the latter two off tiebreakers.
- The tides would slowly turn against the Eagles. Taylor fell in number three singles 6-3, 7-5 to leave Edgewood College tied 3-3. Lindwall struggled in her last two sets and fell in 6-3, 1-6, 2-6 fashion. Coopmans would also fall short as the fifth seed in 7-6 (7-2), 1-6, 1-6 fashion.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles hold a 12-11 series lead over the Falcons after the loss. Concordia Wisconsin has won three of the last four meetings.

Edgewood College concluded their 2022-23 season with a 13-9 record, including a 7-1 finish in the NACC. The season continued their string of strong finishes as they have now finished second or better in conference play since the 2006 season.
