Edgewood College swept by Benedictine in road doubleheader

LISLE, Ill. – The Edgewood College Eagles continued Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play Saturday. They traveled down south to face the Benedictine Eagles. Edgewood College (14-15, 4-9 NACC) struggled to find their footing in a 5-1 loss game one, before a comeback fell short in a 6-3 loss in game two against Benedictine (19-11, 9-7).

GAME ONE: BENEDICTINE 5, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 1
- Edgewood College started off on the back foot in the early innings. A fielder's choice put one on the board for Benedictine after two. A sacrifice fly to center field put on another for the hosts after three, while a triple to left center followed up by a throwing error from the pitcher left things 4-0 Benedictine after four.

- Hayley Kazuboski put Edgewood College on the board in the sixth with a single to left field. Benedictine wrapped up the scoring with a single to right center in the bottom of the frame.

- Alexandra Loizon tossed a complete game gem in the win. She allowed four hits with one run and eight strikeouts in seven. Gaby Slater also pitched well in defeat, fanning six from Benedictine and allowing three earned runs.

- Ashley Fisher was the lone player from either team with a multi-hit game. She hit two-of-three.

GAME TWO: BENEDICTINE 6, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 3
- The hosts started the scoring once more. A bunt single started things off, while a sacrifice grounder to first base left things 2-0 after two.

- Jenna Sanchez hit a sacrifice fly to center field to send one home in the third, but Benedictine evened things out with a double to center field in the fourth.

- Edgewood College tied things up in the top of the fifth. Kya Loffswold singled to third base, while Kasuboski singled to right field to tie things up at 3-3. Benedictine would send the winning runs across home in the bottom of the frame though, a sacrifice grounder to first base scoring one with the bases loaded, while a sacrifice fly to right field added on an insurance run.

- Jasmine Lozano assisted in her pitching win with a RBI single to center field in the bottom of the sixth. She allowed three runs on three hits with three walks while earning the win. Bella Lodico took home the save, blanking Edgewood College with three strikeouts in 2.1 innings pitched.

- Natalie Fields was a bright spot in a quiet Edgewood College order, hitting two-of-two and accounting for a pair of runs.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Benedictine holds a 32-5 lead in the all-time series after the doubleheader sweep.

- Edgewood College has lost seven of their last eight, while Benedictine has won three of four.
